1 in 5 veterans suffer from PTSD, and 1 in 6 will attempt suicide or have suicidal tendencies. Service dogs are a proven recovery tool for these invisible disorders.
At 1Pet1Vet, our mission is to save lives of our country’s veterans through the connection, love, and support of specially trained dogs. We match a veteran suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder as a result of combat military service with a carefully selected canine.
Approximately 60-80 percent of combat veterans are affected by some form of PTSD, and most do not find relief in conventional treatments. Our programs provide veterans with the guidance and tools they need to train their new canine companions. Depending on the veteran’s need, once accepted into the program, the veteran and their canine will complete one of three training regimens; Canine Companion, Certified Emotional Support, Certified Service Dog. By including the veteran in their canine’s training, a deeper bond between the veteran and the canine is established, enabling the veteran to become a part of their own recovery. All of our training programs are designed and taught by our Director of Training, Peggy Moran, at her training facility in Manteno, IL. Through the healing effects of dogs we believe we can save lives of our country’s heroes.
